Henry Nutt Papers, . 1843-1881

Henry Nutt was a Wilmington, N.C., merchant actively interested in the improvement of the city harbor and of navigation in the Cape Fear River. The collection consists of a scrapbook of newspaper clippings and a few related items, almost all relating to the improvement of the river and the harbor, 1843-1881, and a manuscript report (29 pages), 1853, of United States Army engineers on the improvement of the river below Wilmington.

Henry Nutt (fl. 1843-1881), of Wilmington, N.C., was a merchant and director of the Wilmington and Manchester Railroad. He also served on the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce and was actively involved in the improvement of the city harbor and of navigation in the Cape Fear River.
